There are lots of misconceptions about call centers and the people working in call centers. Most people think that working in a call center is not a good career option... Some students would not opt to work in a call center after graduation because they think that call centers are for individuals who are not competitive enough in their field, and, call centers do not have clear avenues for career development...
Sigh...
It takes first hand experience to really know what happens in the call center industry...
I am now working in the field of IT/Networking and I believe that we cannot judge an industry if we do not have enough knowledge/experience in a field.
First and foremost not all call centers are alike... some call centers do not have the same standard as others do... probably one of the reasons why call centers are gaining the "last option" cliche is because of low standard call centers where industry rejects usually fall. Second, international call centers transact globally providing world class training to its employees, and lastly, call centers provide competetive compensation packages as compared to other companies/field.
Ask me... I have more than a hundred reason why...

I am also an IT graduate, and I opt not to work in a CELL CENTER industry, simply put it this way, Too much work little pay, that is, here in Davao City, I dunno in Manila or other parts of the country...
I have friends who entered the field of IT after graduation and as expected they were able to have a decent monthly paycheck. Now, here's the catch: I started working when I was still in third year college... (Fulltime: 8 hours/day 5 days/week) while I was enrolled as a regular student (full load + scholar). I worked in a call center so that I may become independent. Fortunately, I was able to support my studies, help my family financially, and buy the things that I wanna buy. Comparatively speaking, I was able to earn more than my fellow IT professionals as compared to what they are earning now, probably even more than what some of my professors were earning that time.
Here's a fact: Call center employees earn good amount of money, there are some agents who pays 20,000++ for tax alone! Just imagine how much money they're earning every payday...
I didn't earn that much though, but I was able to earn well when I was still in the Call Center industry.
*clap clap*.. I used to worked in a call center too .. and its a challenging career that takes enough courage and hardwork.. which only us can DO..
